Description

They are light and dark brown in colour, giving them good camouflage on the stems of plants. Their most obvious feature is their long noses (proboscis). The adults have long transparent wings which reach further than their bodies. The nymphs are identical to the adults but their wings are not formed.

Adult size: 12 mm

Out and about

They are most numerous over the warmer months. Species from this family are found all over the world, particularly in the tropical and subtropical regions. Common in Australia especially along the north-east coast.
