Description

The genus name Calosoma means “pretty body”. This beetle is a type of ground beetle. They are a shiny, dark metallic green with a pitted pattern forming rows along the outer wing casings (elytra). The larvae, which look a bit like earwigs or rove beetles, live in the soil.

Adult size: 15-27 mm

Out and about

Active in the summer, but doesn’t mind hot dry climates or cold wet ones.
